WHOLE FOODS COLLECTING E-WASTE TO RAISE MONEY

FOR THE NATIONAL VETERANS FOUNDATION

Funds to go Toward a Toll-free Hotline and Outreach Services for Veterans

El Segundo, Calif., June 5, 2008 – Whole Foods Market in El Segundo will be accepting electronics items for recycling from the community in its parking lot from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday June 7 to help raise much needed funds for the National Veterans Foundation.

The money raised from the e-waste will go toward the nation’s only toll-free helpline for all veterans and their families and toward outreach services that provide veterans and families in need with food, clothing, transportation, employment, and other essential resources.

“Whole Foods Market is committed to the health and well being of our communities, which includes our military veterans and their families in this time of need,” said Marketing Supervisor Ashley Gibbons. “E-Waste Recycling events have grown in importance as we have come to understand their long-term damaging impacts on the environment. With this event, we combine our core values of protection of the environment and participation in our community into one important day to support our veterans and their families.

“We are very grateful to Whole Foods Market for supporting our efforts,” said Shad Meshad, founder and president of the National Veterans Foundation, who is a Vietnam Veteran and a passionate advocate of veteran’s issues. “All I can say is thank you.”

It is unlawful in the State of California to discard e-waste in regular trash. E-waste is electronic products used in the workplace and homes contain hazardous substances like lead and mercury. E-waste generally consists of television sets, computer monitors, keyboards, hard drives, mice, scanners, fax machines, printers, photocopiers, cell phones, DVD players, camcorders, any telecommunications equipment including wiring, cameras and most electrical items that are plugged into the wall.

Whole Foods Market is located at 760 South Sepulveda Boulevard in El Segundo. For more information on the location call (310) 333-1900
