Groundbreaking for First Monument to Honor All Women Vets

Veterans Day 2011 will see the groundbreaking for the first monument to honor all women veterans in Pensacola, Florida’s Memorial Park.

Barbara Reagan, a Korean War veteran, donated the land for the monument and will present the deed at the ceremony to Michelle Caldwell, a disabled veteran who serves as Founder and CEO of the Center for Strategic Military Excellence.  World-renowned sculptor Elizabeth MacQueen, the monument’s designer and creator, will be present as well.

Caldwell says, “The whole purpose of the monument is to bring awareness and to assess the gaps in addressing their needs,” Caldwell said. “It gives us the opportunity to make right what we did wrong with Vietnam.”
