When It's Time to Reach Out

Hands reaching out to each other
No matter where you are at this time of year, whether it’s Kansas or Kabul, it seems like that old memory train just keeps pulling into the station.  Sometimes good memories, sometimes ones you’d just as soon forget. So I wanted you to hear, and hear it from me, that you’re not the only one out there experiencing this. Happens to all of us.

Word from the VA is that this is a particularly busy time of year for them.  Well, I guess so.  Many vets who manage just fine during the rest of the year find that things kinda pile up at the holidays.  I say forewarned is forearmed. I mean if this happens to you, reach out.

Reach out to your comrades-in-arms, your friends, your family.  That dog you got last year.  Always you can reach the guys at the NVF. Chat online or call them at 888.777.4443. That’s what they’re there for.  And they’re all vets themselves, so they know the lingo and they come from experiences similar to yours.  That can be a comfort.

Make some quiet time for yourself in all the bustle. Take care of yourself.  Good food, good sleep go a long way.

We’ve traveled some strange and wonderful roads together, and the road goes on before us. It’s been a pleasure traveling with you this year.  Best of everything in the New Year!
